Radio Five Live at Holme Manor

Radio Five Live at Holme Manor

Truly wonderful month of February at Holme Manor we have been up to a lot of things.

On Tuesday 23rd March Radio Five Live team including Adrian Chiles did their show live from Holme Manor. They arrived very early at 6 am to ensure that everything was ready for the broadcast 10 - 1 pm. The team were wonderful and worked with staff, residents and family members to ensure that the show was a huge success. We all enjoyed the programme and hope that you listened too. If not you can catch the programme by going to the bbc.co.uk website. We have also received correspondence from Sheila Scott from the National Care Association who started to listen to the show as she got into her care and was surprised to hear that is was Holme Manor on the radio waves. Below is an email we received later that day. Again we are so pleased to have been able to do the show from Holme Manor and hope that you will listen to it.

Dear Member,
Yesterday morning I got into my car at just about 10.15 to set off for a meeting. My radio was tuned to Radio 5 Live and I heard the voice say and this is Adrian Chiles reporting from Holme Manor Care Home in Rossendale and I am speaking to the Manager Ryan Godwin. (Ryan is a long standing member of NCA) An excellent interview followed with Ryan and then Adrian Chiles had excellent live interviews with two of the residents and the son of one. These interviews were also very good.
I will never forget what the son said about how his father really enjoys being in the home and all the activities and he went on to say this care home is like "a Youth Club for the Elderly".
I expect that I will be quoting this for several years to come!
This wasn't a presentation through rose tinted glasses; people were ringing in asking question and Ryan addressed some of the challenges that care home face.
I missed the rest of the interviews because I had to go into my meeting. I suspect that Adrian and his team were there all morning.
I congratulate Ryan and his team on the excellent representation that he gave of life in a care home.
We will try to get a copy of the whole show for you to listen to if you missed it yesterday so more news about that I hope next week
If any of you are willing to be interviewed in your care home either by radio or television please let us know. We are often asked to arrange such things.

All good wishes and well done to Ryan!

Sheila

This is the email received from Rebecca and the Five Live team.

Hi Ryan,

I hope you're well and everything has calmed down since we all invaded yesterday!

Thank you so much for the absolutely beautiful flowers that arrived today. They are absolutely stunning. I was so shocked, no-one has ever sent us flowers at work before! Thank you, you really shouldn't have - we should be thanking you for being so kind and hosting us.

You were all great, we've had really good feedback and the whole team thought you, Joanne, Paula and your staff were all brilliant - and do thank Danielle for us, I know it was so nerve-wracking for her but she was wonderful - really eloquent and obviously a very passionate and brilliant care assistant. Other highlights for us were Sid, Henk and of course - Shut the Box!
The best ways we can engage listeners about social care is by telling your stories - and you can tell by the calls we got what an emotive and important topic it is for our audience. There was a news online piece linked to the programme which will have reached millions, so glad your colleagues in social care also enjoyed it. I was really glad we could cover this topic fully and at length.

So thank you for opening up your home, and that of your residents, to our production team for the day - we greatly appreciated it. I know how much work it took on your part and the disruption we put you too, it hasn't been unnoticed or under-appreciated.

All the staff were so kind - so many cups of tea and sandwiches, you were all wonderful hosts. And we especially loved meeting Billy and Tigger too!

I will pass all your comments onto the team and to Adrian and thank you again. Do stay in touch, if we can ever be of service and thank you again for the absolutely gorgeous flowers, such a treat.

Very best,
Rebecca & the team at 5 live Daily x

The Memory Box Project is going great and we are really enjoying the sessions which are Monday 1.30 - 3.30 pm and Wednesday 10.00 - 11.30 am and 1.15 - 2.45 pm. Jacquie, Anthony and Janet are wonderful to work with and are really helping us along with this project which is funded by the CCG in East Lancs. When the project ends at the end of March residents will have their own memory boxes which we can then use and add too them as we go along. We are learning new things about our residents at every session.

The twiddlemitts are fantastic and I am so proud of what we have achieved. We are handing some over to the hospital on Tuesday 15th March and I will ensure some photos are added to the website.

Lisa from Unique Inspirations came in also on Tuesday 23rd February to pamper some of our residents. Our residents were treated to reflexology treatment and really enjoyed this session with Lisa. Lisa will be with us again in March s we feel that this type of treatment really has lots of benefits for our residents. You can contact Lisa on 07891291369 or in the Riverside Gym in Rawtenstall.

Much more to happen in March so watch this space....
